"About The Band"

The “Out-Of-Towners” were formed in 2001 as a result of a local backyard reunion of three former members of three well-known regional beach music bands from the upstate of South Carolina. The group consists mainly of three  to four members with the assistance of state-of-the-art midi computerized back-up assistance to create a full brass sound which is needed to generate those dynamic beach sounds. For more demanding venues, other musicians may be incuded to meet desired requests. The band delivers a combined 90 years of experience in Beach, Motown, R&B, and Oldies music to satisfy the demands of today’s party requests.  Their popularity continues to grow each year as they span the East Coast of the US performing and promoting Carolina Beach Music and the State dance of South Carolina, "the Shag".

Most popular beach music bands travel with (6) to(9) members and generate large budgets, expenses, and demand high prices. The Out-Of-Towners Band have focused on quality, professional entertainment, but, with a low overhead, making the group more affordable for smaller venues while continuing to provide that “large band” sound.

There are only two full-time members of the Out-Of-Towners Band. They are Joey Werner- Keys, guitar, percussion, vocals, and Steve Craig - vocals and entertainer.  Current part-time members are Gerald Smith - guitar, keyboards, harmonica, and back-up vocals ,  Alan Nowell - saxophones, percussion, and back-up vocals,  Reggie Mull - guitars and vocals, and back-up vocals, Jerry Adams - saxophones, harmonica, and vocals, with cameo appearances by Bruce Caldwell - saxes, and Johnny Cox of the "Original Swingin' Medallions" on sax and vocals.  These part-time musicians are selected per event based on the needs of the client and their budget.

The “Out-Of-Towners” name came from an engagement in Charleston, SC a few years ago. After arriving at the engagement, there was no name yet assigned to the newly formed group, the band found that, in their absence and for advertisement purposes, the Charleston residents had created a name for them; The Out-Of-Towners Band!!!! Thus, THE HISTORY of the group.

The group has established itself in the upper classes of beach music entertainment during the past few years by performing with well-known groups such as The Swingin' Medallions, The Chairmen Of The Board, Maurice Williams and The Zodiacs, Billy Scott and The Prophets, Archie Bell and The Drells, The Impressions, Hack Bartley and Shuffle, and Clifford Curry just to mention a few. The Band has entertained up and down the East Coast of the US and on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC for members of Congress.

During 2006, they released their second CD, "Down At The Beach", consisting of several original tunes.  The Endless Summer Radio Network of Myrtle Beach with DJ Fessa John Hook, rated one song, "Calming My Fears" as the #1 Top Pick of the "Bubbling Under chart", and another song, "Billy's Club Savoy"  traveled up the  "BEACH MUSIC TOP 40" Chart for over 16 weeks. It also moved well up the "The Smokin'45" Chart listed in CashBox Magazine, and is still working The 94.9FM-The Surf Top 40 Chart at North Myrtle Beach, consistantly in their Top 10 for the past six months.

During 2007, The Band released their third CD entitled "Just Here Overnight". It includes a new hit single called "Boogie Down Blues" currently rated in the Top 20 and on its way up on The Endless Summer Network by John Hook. It is also included in Judy's House Of Oldies Compilation CD called "Now and Then".  "Just Here Overnight" also includes "Shaggin' King and Queen" which is getting a lot of requests throughout the country.

The Band spends many hours in the recording studio and will be releasing a fourth CD late Spring 2008.
You won’t be disappointed by the performance of this aggressive Carolina Beach Music band. Several news publications have referred to them as "Not just your average band. These guys are outstanding showmen and entertain as well as provide great music!!!".

Wedding receptions have become a very large market for them due to their successful ability to "jumpstart" parties.
