"About The Band"
The “Out-Of-Towners” were formed in 2001 as a result of a local backyard reunion of three former members of three well-known regional beach music bands from the upstate of South Carolina. The group consists mainly of three to four members with the assistance of state-of-the-art midi computerized back-up assistance to create a full brass sound which is needed to generate those dynamic beach sounds. For more demanding venues, other musicians may be incuded to meet desired requests. The band delivers a combined 90 years of experience in Beach, Motown, R&B, and Oldies music to satisfy the demands of today’s party requests. Their popularity continues to grow each year as they span the East Coast of the US performing and promoting Carolina Beach Music and the State dance of South Carolina, "the Shag".
The Out-Of-Towners travel with an eight piece band with a four piece horn section. They have an action packed, high-energy stage presence with great entertainment.
BUT, when your budget demands are smaller, the Out-Of-Towners can adjust the size of their band to fit your budget. Most popular beach music bands that travel with (6) to(9) members generate large budgets, expenses, and demand high prices. They have focused on quality, professional entertainment, but, with a low overhead, making the group more affordable for smaller venues while continuing to provide that “large band” sound. The band has become very popular because of their ability to control costs. The band continually performs over 100 events each year.
There are only two full-time members of the Out-Of-Towners Band. They are Joey Werner- Keys, guitar, percussion, vocals, and Steve Craig - vocals and entertainer. Current part-time members are Rickey Godfrey - Guitar and vocals, Scott Nance - guitar and vocals, Blake Craig - Drums, Reggie Mull - guitars and vocals, and back-up vocals, Tony Kennedy - sax, keyboards, harmonica, and vocals, Greg Day - Arranger of Music and Trumpet, Wesley Day - Trombone, Rich Parlier - Trumpet, Bruce Caldwell - saxes. These part-time musicians are selected per event based on the needs of the client and their budget.
The “Out-Of-Towners” name came from an engagement in Charleston, SC a few years ago. After arriving at the engagement, there was no name yet assigned to the newly formed group, the band found that, in their absence and for advertisement purposes, the Charleston residents had created a name for them; The Out-Of-Towners Band!!!! Thus, THE HISTORY of the group.
The group has established itself in the upper classes of beach music entertainment during the past few years by performing with well-known groups such as The Swingin' Medallions, The Chairmen Of The Board, Maurice Williams and The Zodiacs, Billy Scott and The Prophets, Archie Bell and The Drells, The Impressions, Hack Bartley and Shuffle, and Clifford Curry just to mention a few. The Band has entertained up and down the East Coast of the US and on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC for members of Congress.
During 2006, they released their second CD, "Down At The Beach", consisting of several original tunes. The Endless Summer Radio Network of Myrtle Beach with DJ Fessa John Hook, rated one song, "Calming My Fears" as the #1 Top Pick of the "Bubbling Under chart", and another song, "Billy's Club Savoy" traveled up the "BEACH MUSIC TOP 40" Chart for over 16 weeks and became the #1 song on Chicago's Jitterbug Top 40 Charts for several weeks. It also moved well up the "The Smokin'45" Chart listed in CashBox Magazine, as well as The 94.9FM-The Surf Top 40 Chart at North Myrtle Beach.
